Television personality Vice Ganda bagged the award for Best Male TV Host in the recently concluded 31st Star Awards for Television. As he was in New Zealand at the time for the wedding of actress Anne Curtis, he had the Hashtags – CK Kieron, Kid Yambao, Wilbert Ross, and Jimboy Martin – receive the award on his behalf. The video of the awarding itself was posted by the popular TV host on his Instagram account, with the caption: “My heart continues to break. This is just so painful. I dedicate my award to you my baby brother Franco.”
In the video, Kieron accepted the said award for Vice, saying “Itong trophy na ito ay gustong ialay ni Ate Vice sa brother namin, ang co-Hashtag namin na si…” But before he could finish his speech, Kieron became very emotional and struggled to finish his sentence. After a heavy pause, he continued “…si Franco Hernandez. And, bro, we know that you are watching over us and you will now be our angel. We love you, bro. Para sa iyo ito.”
Hernandez, 26, passed away last November 11, 2017, after an accident that happened while he was on a boat ride in Davao Occidental with girlfriend Janica Jam Floresca and some other friends. According to Floresca, their boat encountered big waves which caused the boat to capsize, throwing them off in the water. She recalls having told Hernandez “Love laban lang,” as they were trying to keep afloat for 30 minutes because they did not know how to swim. When Hernandez was finally rescued, he was already unconscious. He was brought to the nearest hospital in Malita but was declared dead on arrival.
Franco Hernandez, whose real name is Franco Miguel Hernandez Lumanlan, became a member of the “It’s Showtime” group “Hashtags” last February 2017. Dubbed as “Hataw Heartthrob” of the group, Franco had a very promising showbiz career ahead of him. Friends from showbiz and non-showbiz alike, as well as fans and other celebrities, took to social media to express their sympathy and condolences for the family of the late Hashtag member.
Hernandez’s remains lie at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City and are to be cremated on Friday, November 17.
