MANILA – For the first time, host Steve Harvey sat down with Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez after he made the mistake of crowning her as Miss Universe instead of Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach.
In a promotional clip for the two part special dubbed “Miss Universe: The Truth on The Steve Harvey Show” to be aired on Monday and Tuesday, the 58-year-old Harvey opened up about the highly-publicized gaffe.
“I could tell you some hard parts for me, but my deeper concern was for the two women. Because as bad as I felt, oh my, God –Miss Colombia, how could she have possibly felt? And my heart bled for her and I haven’t been able to talk to her since.”
He also turned emotional when he talked about the support he received from his wife, Marjorie. He said: “That night I went to bed at 12:30, I woke up at 2:30 and couldn’t even sleep. But my girl got up with me. She was the best.”
Harvey also revealed that he has been receiving death threats, and has since been fearing for the lives of his wife and children. “There’s death threats against your family. I can’t let my kids go nowhere. That’s difficult, man. That’s very, very difficult,” he admitted.
According to a report from TMZ, Harvey “sobbed” when he begged for Gutierrez’s forgiveness when the two met face-to-face for the time since his mistake.
