The British actor kept his illness secret to his last breath until he passed away this morning. Many friends and co-stars were deeply saddened with the news, including Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, who said that Alan Rickman was definitely one of the greatest actors he had ever worked with.

Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career,” Radcliffe wrote on Google Plus.

“Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man,” he added.

Harry Potter’s writer JK Rowling exclaimed on Twitter: “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death.

“My thoughts are with [Rickman’s wife] Rima and the rest of Alan’s family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts.”

Harry Potter fans and Alan’s fans around the world are grieving from the sudden loss of such a great actor.

His wife Rima Horton, whom he secretly married last 2012, is left grieving after 35 years of being together.
